The theme of the movie is set in the nineteenth century in Bengal, the film scrabbles about the idea of aristocratic Bengali women finding and embracing the ideologies of freedom. Bulbul is a 2020 Indian Hindi-language horror/mystery film directed by Anvita Dutta . Set against a backdrop of the 1880s Bengali presidency , film revolves around a child bride and her journey from innocence to power .

There's a lot to appreciate in the film Bulbul . Is one of the best movies made in the genre of horror/mystery by the Indian cinema . The movie revolves around the child bride and the journey of her weakness to strength with an interesting dark fable involved immersed in realism and surrealism, this movie depicts the harsh reality of the Indian women in colonial India. The mind-blowing part is that they did this without disrupting the storyline . The first half of the story goes with a light tone but the beginning of the second half the story starts taking a dark and Sinister turn making it really mysterious , layered and engaging making it more deep and impactful . It can be a bit disturbing to watch few of us but later on all can feel the pain bulbul went through but all it would not have been possible if not for the praise worthy acting done by Tripti Dimri playing two completely polar roles in the movie the journey from a naive innocent girl to the powerful and confident one shows how good of work she has put in this film , the transformation in her performance from a naive innocent girl to a mysterious women was a treat . Her eyes speak volumes, there's sadness and depth in her eyes which you feel once you know her pain and suffering and how this was "Normal" . Binodini character played by Paoli Dam has such an interesting roleplay you can't decide whether to hate her or feel sorry for her.

The music as well is quite good and suits the eeriness of the film . The period setting is pitch perfect . The greatest achievement is the cinematography done by Siddharth Diwan , it's extraordinary he did an excellent job in transporting the audience to the late 1800s as well as communicating the fantastical fairytale or we say horror story aspect of the film.
